The School of Library and Information Studies will hold its Recognition Rites for AY 2015-2016 on 24 June 2015, 03:00 PM, at the Auditorium of the new Institute of Biology, National Science Complex, UP Diliman, Quezon City.  The recognition speaker for this year is Mr. Quintin V. Pastrana, Founder & Managing Director, Library Renewal Partnership.

Graduates of 2nd Semester 2014-2015, Midyear 2014-2015, 1st Semester 2015-2016, and the graduating students of the 2nd Semester 2015-2016 are required to attend this very important event.  This year, the awarding of medals of honor graduates shall be given during the Recognition Rites (no longer in the University Commencement Exercises).  Please come in formal attire (ladies in white/off-white/beige/ecru dress with sleeves and matching shoes; gentlemen in white/off-white/beige/ecru barong, dark pants and dark shoes) and sablay (available at the UP Shopping Center).

Guests must be seated on their assigned seats by 2:45 PM.  The program shall promptly start at 3:00 PM.

The University Commencement Exercises shall also be held on, 26 June 2016 (Sunday), at 7:00 AM, at the UP Amphitheater.  All UP SLIS graduates are required to attend. Please be at the venue by 6:45 AM. The SLIS College Secretary and Marshall shall be there to check your attendance.

  • Submit a photocopy of the official receipt of your graduation fee (PhP300.00 payable at the Cashier’s office) to Mrs. Josie Cervas at the SLIS office.
  • Pay PhP 700.00 (for the snacks/venue) to Mrs. Josie Cervas at the SLIS Office and PhP 500.00 (for alumni fee) during recognition rites registration.
  • File your University clearance starting 27 June 2016.
  • Seat tickets, food tickets, and auto pass shall be available at the SLIS Office soon. Please wait for further announcements.
  • Souvenir programs shall only be given to the attendees of the SLIS Recognition Program and University Commencement Exercises.

Angeles, University Librarian of the University of the Philippines Diliman.

The University Commencement Exercises shall also be held in the morning of the same day, 28 June 2015 (Sunday), at 6:30 AM, at the UP Amphitheater.  All UP SLIS graduates are required to attend. Please be at the venue by 6:30 AM.   The SLIS College Secretary and Marshall shall be there to check your attendance.

The UPLSAA Executive Board elected among themselves the officers that will serve for the period of 1 year. The Alumni Coordinator is appointed by the Dean of the UP SLIS. The election was done on the monthly meeting of the Executive Board held at the SEAMEO INNOTECH Learning Resource Center on 17 June 2015. The oathtaking of new UPLSAA officers will be held on July 4, 2015 during the 65th Alumni Homecoming and General Assembly at the Main Library Lobby, UP Diliman.

The University of the Philippines School of Library and Information Studies (UP SLIS), Diliman, Quezon City, announces the offering of its 20th Summer Institute on Information Science on “RDA Declassified: Learning RDA the New Way” on 22-24 July 2015 at Rooms 3 and 4, UP School of Library and Information Studies, 3rd Floor Gonzalez Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

Since 1975, UP SLIS has spearheaded discussions on trends and innovations in the field of library and information science by way of the summer institute. Today, with the testing and eventual implementation of Resource Description and Access in other countries, our institution will be conducting a workshop for library and information practitioners interested to learn about the new code. By the end of this workshop, participants are expected to be able to grasp the basic foundation of Resource Description and Access; and to be able to apply the concepts and rules prescribed in the said code, in their own cataloging practice. Topics to be covered in the workshop include the background and structure of RDA, description using RDA and other related RDA concepts.

In this light, we would like to invite you to participate in our event. The Journal of Philippine Librarianship (JPL) is the annual peer reviewed journal of the UP School of Library and Information Studies (UP SLIS). The University of the Philippines School of Library and Information Studies (UP SLIS), Diliman, Quezon City, announces the offering of its 19th Summer Institute on Information Science on “Promoting Transparency and Accountability through Effective Records Management” on 23-25 July 2014 at SEAMEO INNOTECH, Commonwealth Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.

This activity, which originally started in 1975 as part of the extension program of the college, is in line with the celebration of the 100th year of Library Science Education in the country. This year's Summer Institute aims to provide basic knowledge and skills on systematic and effective records management and its impact on institutional transparency, accountability and professional responsibility.
