There were various proclamations related to the celebration of National Language Week.
The National Language Week is celebrated from March 27 to April 2, by Proclamation No. 35 effective July 1946. The celebration culminates on the birth anniversary of Francisco Baltazar.
The date of celebration was changed to March 29 to April 4 by President Magsaysay in 1954 but, a year later it was moved to August 13 – 19, ending the long week celebration that coincides with the birth anniversary of President Manuel L. Quezon who is born on August 19, 1878. This declaration is Proclamation No. 186, s. 1955.
In 1988, President Corazon Aquino certify August 13 – 19, as Linggo ng Wikang Pambansa through Proclamation 19, s. 1988.
After a decade, President Fidel V. Ramos declared the whole month of August as Buwan ng Wika by Proclamation 1041, s. 1997.
